Overview

Bhutan, officially the Bhutan Kingdom, is a landlocked country in the eastern Himalayas of South Asia that Thimphu is the capital and largest city of Bhutan. Bhutan has borders with China to the north and India to the south, east, and west. Bhutan is separated from Nepal through the Indian state of Sikkim and from Bangladesh in the south through the Indian states of Assam and West Bengal.

King Bhutan is Druk Gyalpo, meaning "king of thunder dragon". The Bhutanese landscape changes from the fertile subtropical plains to the Himalayan mountains in the south with peaks exceeding 7,000 meters high. The highest mountain in Bhutan is Gangkhar Puensum, the world's highest unreached mountain.

Bhutan has a strong cultural link with Tibet and lies on the Silk Road between China and the Indian subcontinent. Bhutanese territory consisted of many small fiefs conflicting with each other until the beginning of the 17th century. At that time, a Lama and military leader named Ngawang Namgyal unified the area and built a distinct Bhutanese identity.

Bhutan is known for its beautiful natural landscape and unique traditional culture. The people here are friendly and nice. Bhutan is also the first country in the world to bring environmental protection to the constitution that 60% of the country's land area must always be covered by forests.
