General information of Ko Ang Thong National Park

Thanks to the diversity of marine creatures of the island, people named it Ang Thong (means the “Golden Bowl” in Thai). Coming to Ang Thong, you will be overwhelmed by the colorful fish. Besides, the island ecosystem also contributes to the name “Ang Thong”. The dense forests are home to many different animals such as mascara monkeys, iguanas (a special lizard species) and python snakes.

Ang Thong National Park

For centuries, Ko Ang Thong National Park was a pirate’s paradise. Dozens of islands, dense forests and vertical steep caves have created a perfect base for them. Later, the Thai navy seized the islands and built bases there. Since the 80s, Ang Thong National Park has become a protected nature reserve by the government with over 100 square kilometers covered by forests and the sea. This is the second largest natural park in Thailand.

The highlights of Ang Thong National Park

Koh Mae – An exotic turquoise lake

One of Ang Thong’s most prominent islands is Koh Mae, also known as “Mother of the islands”. At first glance, this paradise island is the same other ones except for the blue lake Talay Nai. It is also called “the Blue Lagoon” since it appeared in the movie “The Beach”. This is a spectacular turquoise lake surrounded by steep limestone rocks. To see this “hidden pearl”, you have to climb up more hundred steps and you will find it worth visiting.
If you want to explore the island more, you can take some tours providing kayaking. Because kayaks are smaller than boats, it is easier to slip through rocks and visit small caves.

Koh Wua Talap

Koh Wua Talap

Koh Wua Talap is the most famous island here. From the top of Koh Wua Talap, tourists can see the panoramic view of the island. However, it’s not easy to reach the top. Because of the cliffs, visitors can only cling to a rope to move.

At the height of 100 meters, you might be “breathless” by the landscape here. The higher it is, the more majestic the landscape is. Do not give up even though the climb is difficult. At the top of the mountain, you will enjoy the spectacular scenery, the green islands far away, the blue water and the sound of the monkeys.

Back to the beach, the cool blue water will be the perfect opportunity for you to fully recover from a difficult climb. This is also a great time to put on a diving suit and explore the diverse underwater ecosystem. You will see the colorful fish in all sizes and types.
